Banksia Nut - Medium

Banksia grandis(Western Australia) rnA bush or small tree which attains a height of up to 15m, but more commonly 5-10m. A small trunk 0.25-0.5m in diameter. Grows as an under story tree within Jarrah forests. The fruit produced by this tree is known as the Banksia nut. There are over 70 species of Banksia but only this one produces fruit large enough to be of any commercial value for turning. The fruit may be 4 to 9 inches long with an average size of 6 inches. The nuts must be picked from the tree when mature and this can take several years. The nuts are hard and solid, with seed pods running from the outside, towards the center core. Easily turned giving a very unusual result. rnr
